Abstract |
The existence of a soil contact layer when there is shear interaction between a rigid body and the soil has been demonstrated by an analysis of the numerical solution of a one-dimensional unsteady problem on the interaction of a rigid strip with a non-linearly deformable soil medium. The occurrence of a peak value of the shear stress and subsequent structural breakdown in the soil contact layer has been shown, which agrees with experimental results. It is established that, when non-linear soil deformation laws are employed, there is no need to use interaction (friction) laws and conditions of complete adhesion at the boundary of contact between the rigid body and the soil are sufficient in problems on the shear interaction between structures and a soil medium. |
