Abstract The non-linear problem of the seepage of a gas in a weakly conducting porous medium, which simulates the overheating of a reactor, is investigated. An analytical calculation of the critical values of the similarity parameter of the problem, which determine the condition for steady cooling of a system that is open to the atmosphere and the condition for global overheating, is carried out. Estimates of the above-mentioned values of the similarity parameter are obtained in the three-dimensional case.
