Abstract |
The results of solving a linear problem on the steady oscillations of a horizontal cylinder submerged in a liquid are presented. An ice sheet with an infinite straight crack parallel to the axis of the cylinder floats on its upper boundary. The ice sheet is modelled by a thin elastic plate and the partially frozen crack is simulated by a system of two springs: a vertical spring and a flexural rotational spring. It is assumed that the properties of the plates can change abruptly on crossing the crack. The method of mass sources distributed over the contour of the body is used. The corresponding Green function is constructed using expansions in the vertical eigenfunctions. The hydrodynamic load acting on the cylinder and the amplitude of the vertical displacements of the ice sheet are calculated. It is shown that the wave motion depends considerably on the position of the cylinder with respect to the crack and its properties. The relation between the damping coefficients and the amplitudes of the flexural-gravitational waves in the far field is given. |
